A strong LinkedIn profile can help your freelance business attract more clients. The social media platform does not only serve as an avenue to interact and engage with prospects. LinkedIn also helps freelance professionals establish themselves as an expert in their industry and niche. The first Personalised Coaching Workshop: How To Use LinkedIn Like A Pro, held on 17 April 2019, saw about 10 participants learn how to market their brand and business with LinkedIn.

Led by LinkedIn expert Jacelyn Tan, the workshop was attended by freelancers of diverse niche areas including business owners and creatives. The three-hour interactive workshop covered key areas such as optimising your LinkedIn profile for personal branding, target audience engagement and business development.

The workshop also delved into each individual’s needs relevant to their work. Guided by fellow freelancer, Jacelyn Tan, who has over 15 years of experience in sales and marketing, participants were able to work on creating and developing their LinkedIn profile on the spot.

You too can leverage on LinkedIn for your freelance brand and business with these tips from trainer Jacelyn Tan.

5 Tips to Use LinkedIn Like A Pro

1. Don’t be shy and don’t be too secretive

You want your non-connections to be able to find you. Opt for a public profile instead of a private one, so you can be found via Google search. Since LinkedIn is a powerful tool for personal branding, market yourself!

2. Headshots are best for your profile photo

A LinkedIn profile with a photo will give your profile 21 times more views and 9 times more connection requests. Check out LinkedIn Power Profiles for inspiration!

3. Headline should reflect your message

Your headline slogan can include keywords. Keywords are crucial to search results, especially in niche services and markets. Think about what you’re passionate about and you’re business is trying to solve.

4. Ask for recommendations

Don’t be shy, ask for a recommendation after you have done a very good job for a client, and they have told you.

5. Your content is your LinkedIn voice

Showcase your expertise and establish yourself as a pro in your industry through the content you share and write on LinkedIn. Know your target audience including the industry, functions and interests, and prepare your content accordingly.
